Texas Military Department Names New Chief Information Officer

Lt. Col. Chris Winnek previously served as the department’s cyber operations chief before becoming deputy chief information officer in December 2023.

Lt. Col. Chris Winnek is the new chief information officer for the Texas Military Department (TMD).

Winnek joined TMD as cyber operations chief in January 2022, later becoming deputy CIO in December 2023.

Before TMD, Winnek served as CIO for the Texas Army National Guard from 2019 to 2022.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental design from Texas A&M University in 2001 before earning a master’s in information technology management from Webster University in 2012.

According to LinkedIn, Winnek serves as vice chair of the Texas Cybersecurity Council and is a member of both the Statewide Information Security Advisory Committee and the Texas Cyber Incident Response Working Group.
