Two Texas cities have been recognized nationally for their digital government achievements through the Center for Digital Government’s* Government Experience Awards.

The city of Grand Prairie received a Government Experience Award for its citywide digital engagement program, which leverages multiple channels to connect residents with services and information. Meanwhile, the city of Midland earned a Project Experience Award for its Council Operational Dashboard, a new data platform that gives elected leaders near-real-time visibility into service delivery and performance.

Grand Prairie’s nomination highlighted the integration of its website, mobile app, social media and texting platform, TextMyGov, to create a seamless digital experience. The city launched TextMyGov in July 2023, enabling residents to access information or report issues via text message. By mid-2024, nearly 2,000 residents had subscribed, exchanging more than 68,000 messages with the city. Officials say the service has streamlined communications and reduced response times while enhancing public satisfaction. Looking ahead, the city identified priorities including improved accessibility, mobile services and stronger cybersecurity protections.

Midland’s award-winning project focuses on supporting transparency and governance. The Council Operational Dashboard, developed in-house by the city’s IT Department in collaboration with the City Manager’s Office, integrates Power BI, ArcGIS Dashboards, APIs and HTML5 to deliver performance data on services, budgets and projects. Implemented in early 2025 for internal use, the platform equips councilmembers with immediate answers to constituent and media inquiries.

The Government Experience Awards, managed by the Center for Digital Government, honor jurisdictions that use technology to enhance services and engagement. Winners were announced last week across categories for states, counties, cities and individual projects.
