CDT Recruiting for Key IT Roles in Web Services, Product Management

The California Department of Technology (CDT) has opened recruitment for two key senior roles within the Office of Digital Services (ODS): web services manager and product manager.

ODS provides GIS/open data, web portals, software engineering and open-source code curation for organizations to provide innovative digital services. Here are the details on the positions:

Web Services Manager (IT Manager II)
$11,056 to $13,439 per month

The manager will oversee “the most complex statewide web programs” and will “build and foster a dynamic team,” the job posting says, with responsibility for the development, maintenance and support of web-based services and solutions. These include the California Web Publishing Service, the CA Design System, the State Web Template, the ca.gov portal, various statewide web policies and management of the ca.gov domain.

Responsibilities of the role include:

• Leading the development, maintenance and operations of web and digital platform technology solutions, services and programs
• Organizing and leading state communities of practice and partnering on strategic initiatives with the Office of Data and Innovation, which is part of the California Government Operations Agency, as is CDT
• Collaborating with the state’s digital and web communities to understand critical issues impacting the state; and planning, delivering and managing common technology platforms and shared services
• Collaborating with peers within ODS and consulting with partners throughout state government on the development and support of the state’s web and digital programs

Product Manager (IT Manager I)
$9,114 to $12,213 per month

The product manager directs the development of product vision, strategy and road maps for complex product lines. Additional duties of the role include managing and coordinating assignments for staff based on CDT priority, staff experience and skill levels, complexity of projects, specialized skills and resource availability.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Providing guidance to product managers in prioritizing and managing product offerings and catalogs and communicating high-level and detailed product requirements while following agile methodologies
• Developing and implementing processes to define, track and improve key product metrics, leveraging data to make informed product decisions
• Formulating and updating duty statements as needed, establishing performance expectations, completing individual development plans annually and completing reports on a timely basis
