The California Department of Aging is seeking an assistant chief information officer (IT Manager II) to oversee technical operations and services for the Division of Information Technology (DIT). The ACIO develops, coaches and mentors IT professionals to support current and future technology capabilities. Essential functions of this role include:
  • Encourage team building across all staff with an emphasis on excellent customer service and succession planning.
  • Direct teams and processes to ensure the continual availability and security of IT services.
  • Guide and direct project, governance, development, infrastructure service desk functions and database administration within the division.
  • Provide expert guidance and direction to varying levels of staff and leadership related to IT services, planning and delivery.

The Department of Health Care Services is recruiting for a chief (IT Manager I) of the IT Fiscal Services Section, with responsibility for managing the enterprise IT budget portfolio and providing support, strategic planning and project budget guidance.

Desirable qualifications for this role, according to the job posting, include:
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and technical ability related to the state’s budget and legislative processes.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of state employee compensation.

This position is in the IT Services Branch (ITSB), Enterprise Solutions Development Division (ESDD), myCalPERS Services Section (MCPSS), Benefit Services Unit of the nation’s largest public pension fund. Desirable qualifications for this role, according to the job posting, include:

The Department of FI$Cal (Financial Information System for California) is seeking a chief (IT Manager I) for the Application Innovation Services Section, which focuses on enterprise-wide application development support, specifically analyzing, designing and developing intricate customizations for FI$Cal’s applications.

“Collaborating closely with other divisions ... the AISS chief will oversee the analysis, design, development, implementation, debugging, documentation and support of complex system reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements and forms for FI$Cal’s accounting, procurement and cash management functions,” the job posting says. FI$Cal serves as the state’s business office.

The job posting continues: “Motivating the AISS staff to deliver high-quality results for highly complex projects, the AISS chief ensures adherence to FI$Cal’s department and technology division’s vision, goals, and objectives. Leading efforts to document emerging system functions, processes, and data within the FI$Cal Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System, the AISS chief ensures alignment with business objectives while incorporating the latest technology trends and industry best practices.”

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is recruiting for a document management system developer (IT Specialist I) to provide software solution development and applications support for EDD’s Document Information Management Center operations.

“The successful candidate has strong software development and analytical skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines, and can work independently,” the job posting says.

Desirable qualifications for this position include:

EDD is also recruiting for “a highly motivated and qualified individual to work in the Product Development Division of the IT Branch, State Disability Insurance Operations Section” as a development operational (DevOps) engineer (IT Specialist I).

The engineer, according to the job posting, “will work with various internal departments to identify and define problems or issues, analyze and document business requirements, triage and resolve new code deployments into various test systems, as well as maintain existing code working throughout the System Development Life Cycle.”

In addition, the incumbent’s responsibilities include assisting with code deployment, maintaining and creating new system setup documentation, managing/creating schedules for project go-live deployments and system maintenance, facilitating meetings, exploring and presenting system setup solutions, and assisting with any application operational issues reported by either internal or external customers.

Desirable qualifications for the position include:
  • Experience using industry-standard methodologies to perform analysis such as Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and with using object-oriented programming and languages (C#, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Experience as a software developer leveraging with C#.NET, ASP.NET 4.7 or above, Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 or above, Microsoft SQL 2016 or above, and Azure DevOps to deliver solutions.
  • Experience managing operations of Web Services, RESTful APIs, and knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services and SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Proficiency in using Azure DevOps or GitHub for version control, including branching, merging, and pull request workflows, preferably within a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, and ability to deploy and manage infrastructure using cloud-native services and IaaS offerings.
