The
city of Vacaville has a new CIO in longtime public-sector technologist Gurinder Bains. He comes to the city from Oakland, where he spent five years serving as the deputy CIO.
“This new chapter is especially meaningful to me. I’m grateful for my time with the city of Oakland and for the incredible colleagues, teams and leaders I had the privilege of working alongside,” Bains said in
a LinkedIn post. “The experiences, challenges and accomplishments we shared have shaped me as a leader and prepared me for this next opportunity.”
Before joining the city, Bains held a number of other leadership roles, including CIO for the California Student Aid Commission, IT operations branch chief with the California Department of Child Support Services, and deputy director for the Legislative Data Center.
“I’m honored to now serve the Vacaville community and look forward to working with city leadership and a talented team to strengthen technology and cybersecurity, advance innovation and deliver reliable, responsive services,” he continued.
Bains holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from California State University, East Bay, and a Master of Business Administration from John F. Kennedy University.
