The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking an assistant project director (IT Manager II) for the department’s Enterprise Modernization Project. “The incumbent has full management responsibility for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating and managing all activities associated with the Modernization Project Section,” the job posting notes.

The assistant director “provides strategic direction in planning, coordinating and controlling the activities of the modernization project’s Technical Section,” the duty statement says. The assistant manager will direct and guide the creation of technical, administrative and fiscal documents articulating the department’s vision for its modernization projects, and will be “responsible for overseeing and managing the design, development and implementation of environments, architecture, deliverables and applications for the Modernization Project.”

In addition, the incumbent will oversee the design and development of new enterprise architecture and framework and management of deliverables. The incumbent will also advise and provide recommendations to department administrators and program managers on the applicability and effectiveness of state-of-the-art technology alternatives to meet ongoing business requirements.

The position has a monthly salary range of $10,167 to $12,359, and the application deadline is Sept. 1.

The California Department of Technology is recruiting for a DevOps manager (IT Manager I) to take full responsibility for managing the DevOps Engineering team and ensuring “the successful execution of all Office of Enterprise Technology (OET) and other business requests for this team, including DevOps/agile consulting, security/infrastructure/configuration management, automation for build-and-release engineering, site and infrastructure reliability, and facilitation of automated testing.”

“The IT Mgr I is responsible for the hiring process for DevOps Engineering, makes recommendations for training needs, and is responsible for standards, policies, procedures, and business process improvements,” the job posting says. Candidates will be evaluated based on criteria including the following:
  • Possess strong project management skills.
  • Experience designing and implementing secure automation solutions for development, testing and high-availability production environments in either public or private cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenStack etc.) and experience with network, security, deployment, automation, serverless technologies.
  • Experience working with agile development teams in continuous integration/continuous release cycles model such as DevOps Build Server, Ansible, CircleCI, Jenkins and Puppet to maximize efficiency.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, virtualized platforms container systems (Docker) and container orchestration (e.g., EC2 Container Service, Kubernetes, OpenShift etc.).
  • Experience with logging and monitoring (Splunk, Kibana, Monitis, CloudWatch, New Relic, SolarWinds, Datadog etc.).
  • Experience in infrastructure automation/configuration management, including Ansible, CloudFormation, PowerShell, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Vagrant and Azure Resource Manager.
  • Be able to work independently, direct the activities of teams, maintain schedules and bring projects to a timely closure.
  • Knowledge of CDT business areas.

Covered California is seeking a chief (IT Manager I) for the Enterprise Project Management Office to direct the work of staff to plan, execute, control, transition and close out enterprise projects, both internal to Covered California and in coordination with other state agencies, local government entities, legislative groups, federal entities and health plans.

In addition, the chief will manage the operational and administrative functions of the Enterprise Project Management Office including providing direction to each project manager and ensuring that all project requirements and schedule dates are monitored, according to the job posting.

The chief will also manage “risks and issues related to enterprise project activities, including monitoring project risks and quality measures, developing and maintaining mitigation plans, and developing and maintaining contingency plans,” the posting says. The chief also advises the chief information officer and deputy chief information officer on technical issues and risks related to the enterprise projects.

Desirable qualifications include:
  • Experience managing project managers, scrum masters and product owners
  • Experience with agile methodologies
  • Experience managing enterprise project/program portfolio
  • Experience communicating and presenting to executive leadership
  • Experience with business transformation and innovation
