“I will be leading a high‑performing team of 30-plus outstanding public‑sector technologists, stewarding a $14 million annual budget to keep the city’s most critical public-facing and internal systems and business intelligence functions running strong,” Kurtzman wrote in an announcement on LinkedIn.The move comes at a time of tech leadership transitions for the city; Technology and Innovation Department (TID) Director Lea Eriksen is stepping down in April to take a job with Culver City. EIS is a bureau within TID which manages enterprise applications.
Kurtzman has held a number of leadership positions since joining the city in July 2018, including management assistant, smart cities program manager, and most recently, technology partnerships officer.
Prior to joining the city, Kurtzman was an adjunct professor with the University of Southern California Sol Price School of Public Policy and a policy fellow for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, among other roles.
Kurtzman holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelor of Science in environmental health science and engineering.
