The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety, a department of the California Natural Resources Agency, is recruiting for a chief information officer (IT Manager I) to manage the Information Technology Section and be responsible for formulating and administering organization-wide IT policies and programs.

The mission of the Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety is “to advance long-term utility infrastructure safety through data-driven, wildfire mitigation evaluation and compliance, excavation standards and education, in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, and in support of improved utility infrastructure, safety culture, and innovation.”

Desirable qualifications, according to the job posting, include:
  • Lead, supervisory, and/or managerial experience in an IT environment.
  • Previous and/or current experience as an IT Supervisor II and/or IT Specialist II.
  • Experience in IT project management, software engineering/development, application development and system engineering.

Among the essential functions of the position, according to the duty statement: “Directly manage work in a combination of IT domains (i.e., business technology management, client services, IT project management and system engineering) by evaluating existing resources, time constraints and priorities in order to complete the IT Unit’s services and support functions (i.e., IT Help Desk, IT Project Management, IT Application Development, etc.) to ensure that work is completed on time and accurately by utilizing the methods, data, knowledge, and technological resources available.”

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) is seeking a senior project manager (IT Specialist II) to be responsible for project management and project support functions to manage complex IT projects.

The department’s Information Systems Division works in collaboration with programs and county agencies to provide solutions to systems that help families access medical services, care providers, groceries and transportation, among other things.

Duties of the position include:
  • Overseeing and managing scope, resources and schedules for all aspects related to the project.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate project activities with internal and/or external stakeholders, oversight agencies and vendor teams.
  • Participate in and oversee the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of individual project objectives and short- and long-range plans; and develop tracking and evaluation programs to assist in the accomplishment of established project goals and objectives.
  • Manage the working relationships and collaboration among project leaders, agency and department directorates, business partners, stakeholders and advocacy groups.

Desirable qualifications, according to the job posting and duty statement, include:
  • PMP certification and three years of project management experience leading IT projects.
  • Experience in agile methodology and SCRUM framework.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects, thrive under pressure and remain professional.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and use persuasion when necessary to ensure the success of the team and/or project.

The role has a monthly salary range of $8,130 to $10,893, and the recruitment will continue until the position is filled.
