State Health Business, IT Leaders to Brief Industry Insider Members

Industry Insider — California members should mark their calendars for the members-only briefing this week by business and IT leaders with the California Department of Health Care Services.

California state government, with its more than 100 distinct departments, boards, offices and agencies, has many significant entities. On Thursday, Industry Insider — California members will have a chance to hear firsthand from technology and business leaders at one of the state’s largest departments, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Join us at 2:30 p.m. at Sacramento’s DoubleTree by Hilton for the Industry Insider — California Member Briefing with the Department of Health Care Services 2024.

DHCS brings a $162 billion overall budget to bear on issues confronting millions of low-income and disabled residents every day. The department provides access to affordable, integrated, high-quality health care that includes medical and dental care, mental health, substance use treatment services and long-term care. DHCS also funds health-care services for more than 15.4 million Medi-Cal beneficiaries; and roughly one in three Californians get health-care services that are financed or organized by DHCS — making it the state’s largest health-care purchaser. Programs the department administers include California Children’s Services, the Child Health and Disability Prevention program, and the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly.

Three of DHCS’ key business and IT leaders will discuss the department’s mission and its technology work. Chris Riesen is DHCS’ chief operating officer for programs and previously served as department CIO for more than five years. His current role supports strategic initiatives that support quality health care leading to a healthy California for all. He’s also a member of the Directorate team that has primary responsibility for enterprise data and information, enterprise technology, and program operations, according to LinkedIn. Crystal Taylor is its division chief for IT strategy services and was previously DHCS’ chief of product. In a previous role as acting deputy director of the California project management office at the California Department of Technology, she helped develop the first California Project Management Leadership Academy. Steve Trimble is division chief for Medi-Cal enterprise system modernization and has been with the department more than four years. He was most recently chief of development at Child Welfare Digital Services, where he led state and private software development teams in helping replace the legacy Child Welfare Services Case Management System.
