Family and Protective Services Requests $122M IT Capital Budget for 2026-27

The requested capital budget is about $10 million more than what DFPS was granted for equivalent items in the General Appropriations Bill for FY 2024-25.

The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) has requested $122 million for its IT capital budget in its Fiscal Year 2026-27 legislative appropriations request.

The requested capital budget is about $10 million more than what DFPS was granted for equivalent items in the General Appropriations Bill (HB1) for FY 2024-25.

Included in the IT capital budget are the following items:
  • $68 million for data center consolidation
  • $20 million for seat management
  • $25 million for the Information Management Protecting Adults and Children in Texas (IMPACT) system
  • $8 million for administrative systems
  • $400,000 for smartphones

According to its strategic plan for 2025-2029, the agency intends to modernize internal processes and statewide community-based care systems. Plans for upcoming solicitations include requests for emerging technologies with potential for operational efficiency optimization and cybersecurity enhancements.
