More than half of Texas’ age-eligible population now has an account on Texas by Texas (TxT), the state’s official digital government assistant, as the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) prepares to expand access to additional users and services this year.

As of May 1, more than 12.3 million Texans had created TxT accounts, representing about 53 percent of the state’s age-eligible population, according to DIR. The platform has facilitated more than 29.6 million transactions since its inception and has recently averaged about 7,000 new account sign-ups each day.

DIR manages the Texas.gov program, including TxT, which Deloitte develops and maintains under contract. The platform allows users to log in once, link credentials, store payment methods, receive renewal reminders and complete transactions from a single dashboard.

“DIR’s vision is to transform how Texas government serves Texans, which includes helping the state deliver more accessible and efficient services,” said DIR Executive Director and CIO Tony Sauerhoff. “With the TxT platform, our focus is on making government services easier for Texans to access and use, saving time and money for all involved.”

Current TxT transactions include driver's license and ID services through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), vehicle registration through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, boat registration through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and massage licensing through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The platform has continued adding services since its public launch in 2022, including driver’s license upgrades and boat registration renewals added last year through work with DPS and TPWD.

The department says the platform is shifting routine transactions away from separate agency systems and onto a single consolidated platform as more services and features are added, allowing users to access TxT through a mobile app or web browser rather than visiting an office.

User feedback cited by the department shows about 93 percent of surveyed users reporting satisfaction with the app. TxT currently holds a 4.9 rating on Apple’s App Store and a 4.8 rating on Google Play.

The state is planning additional updates later this year, including expanded access for out-of-state users. Under the planned update, individuals 18 and older who do not have a Texas driver's license or state ID will be able to create a TxT account after completing identity verification. Other planned updates include barcode scanning during sign-up, faster integration of government services and improved digital accessibility for Texans of all abilities.
