Brief: Tong Tapped to Serve on ScholarShare Board

Amy Tong, the recently former senior counselor to the governor and former secretary for the Government Operations Agency, has been appointed as one of the seven members of the ScholarShare Investment Board.

The former senior counselor to the governor, Amy Tong, has been tapped to serve on the ScholarShare Investment Board.

That seven-member body is responsible for administering the state’s college savings plan, ScholarShare 529, as well as the child scholarship program CalKIDS.

Tong’s career in state government spanned more than three decades and included leadership positions at high-profile departments and agencies. In June, Tong joined international government affairs firm Ballard Partners as a partner. She is also a senior fellow with the Center for Digital Government*.

Before being named as the governor’s senior counselor, Tong served as the secretary for the Government Operations Agency (GovOps), the director of the California Office of Data and Innovation (ODI), and as the state CIO and director of the California Department of Technology (CDT), among many other leadership roles.

Tong also serves on the California Racial Equity Commission.

She holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from California State University, Sacramento.
