California Prison Authority Recruiting Candidates for CIO Role

State departments are recruiting for some key IT positions, including a chief information officer, a procurement expert and two manager roles.

The California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) chief information officer (Career Executive Assignment) will serve as a key policy adviser to the assistant general manager on all administrative IT matters and their related program impact, according to the job posting. In addition, the CIO directs, through subordinate managers, all administrative IT functions and oversees the development, implementation and short-term maintenance of the centralized CALPIA Project Management Office (PMO).

The Folsom-based CALPIA manages more than 100 manufacturing, service and consumable industries within the 35 institutions that make up the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

Applicants must complete a Statement of Qualifications, which should include relevant examples of experience and be numbered in the order the following factors are presented:
  1. Demonstrated managerial experience developing functions such as delegated procurement, IT, management information systems, and project management.

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is seeking applicants for a business technology procurement manager (IT Manager I) to supervise a professional team that provides essential business information, analytical and systems support for the department’s internal business applications systems and business system end users.

Duties of the role include reviewing complex business requirements, technical studies and surveys and providing technology expertise on the development of non-delegated IT and telecom projects for the state, according to the job posting.

The California State Lottery is seeking two managers — one for Digital and Interactive Services (DIS) and one for Data, Information and Analytics Services (DIAS). Both positions are classified as IT Manager I, and both have a salary range of $8,591 to $11,512 and an application deadline of Aug. 10.

The manager for DIS, working under the chief applications officer, is responsible for the California State Lottery Digital and Interactive Services Unit and the Mobile Applications, Public Website Support and Digital Quality Assurance teams. The manager “oversees and manages the testing of gaming system solutions including establishing standard testing frameworks, methodologies, documentation and deliverables,” and is responsible for the quality, oversight and direction of the Lottery’s gaming systems and gaming products, including business requirements assembly, architectural reviews, product system specifications reviews, system analysis, and design and product development.

The manager for DIAS is responsible for the department’s business intelligence and business analytics applications and systems within the IT Services Division’s DIAS unit. The incumbent provides team leadership in alignment with Lottery goals relating to application best practice processes, standards, procedures, development and implementation.

Other duties of the role include setting IT processes and standards; formulating future long-range vision and objectives; and aligning and reviewing implementation and ensuring conformance of the unit with organizational policies and objectives.
