The California Department of Technology (CDT) is recruiting an assistant deputy director (IT Manager II) to work on project approvals and oversight. The role takes on responsibility for a portfolio of state departments, agencies, boards and commissions and provides oversight and management for associated IT projects.
That includes:
- Corrective action and remediation recommendations and planning with departments to resolve critical project performance issues
- Review and approval of IT project and budget actions, as well as review of oversight assessments and recommendations
- Formation of the PAO practices and issue resolution
- Providing guidance to state IT leaders, departmental executives, control agencies, the governor’s office and the Legislature
- Contributing to the development or change of state policy concerning IT projects
CDT is also seeking to hire a senior business operations manager (IT Manager I) for the Middle-Mile Broadband Initiative. This position will work under the general direction of the Office of Broadband and Digital Literacy to lead policy and program development, data and legislative management and broadband strategic planning.
The role’s responsibilities may include:
- Developing and employing financial models to understand the MMBI economics, capital and operating funding needs and revenue projections
- Steering and coordinating efforts with other stakeholders to complete a market analysis that informs demand and pricing for the network, identifying, assessing and potentially pursuing additional sources of capital and operating funding and financing
- Identifying, assessing, and potentially pursuing opportunities for private-sector participation in the delivery, maintenance, operations or commercialization of the network
- Interacting with third-party administrators to define standards, milestones and targets, monitoring their performance and establishing protocols and remedies to repair and supplement any deficiencies
- Oversee teams responsible for managing MMBI projects through all project phases, including managing scope, cost management, schedule, resources, stakeholder communication, risks and issues, both for project development and operations
Finally, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is looking for candidates for two IT managers (IT Manager I) on a term-limited basis to work within the Technical Modernization Section of the department’s Digital Experience Project (DXP). DXP is a large modernization project to replace legacy systems and applications associated with several department functions including driver’s licenses, vehicle registration and occupational licensing.
The roles are set for a limited term that may be extended up to 24 months and may be made permanent.
One of the hires will manage the Release and Information Security Group; the other will oversee the System Development and Support Group.
The positions will act as technical oversight managers directing teams tasked with data migration, reporting and technical deliverables while following industry standards and information security policies. They will also serve as liaisons between department end users, technical analysts, IT analysts, consultants and other staff.
