The assistant deputy director for the Middle Mile Broadband Initiative is a senior leader who steers program management, governance and contract administration to build and sustain a statewide, open-access middle-mile network. The role ensures alignment with the Middle-Mile Advisory Committee’s principles and statutory requirements.
The incumbent will drive National Telecommunications and Information Administration grant execution and craft the long-term road map for the state-owned network — tracking technology and policy trends, engaging industry partners and exploring innovative funding models. They coordinate closely with the California Public Utilities Commission, Caltrans and a third-party administrator to deliver initiatives on time and budget. They also oversee public-private partnership acquisitions and data/reporting systems, produce state and federal reports, advise CDT executive leadership and run performance, briefing and governance cadences.
