“For me, it’s a chance to dive deeper into my passion for coaching and mentoring,” Patrick Dennis told Industry Insider — California. “I can’t wait to contribute to the dynamic team at Info-Tech.”

Dennis, a former chief information officer for the California Department of Parks and Recreation, has taken the role of executive counselor with Info-Tech Research Group, an international IT research and advisory company.

In his new role, Dennis will be focused on state and local government agencies primarily within the western region.

Dennis worked in state government for almost 30 years, beginning in 1992 with the Franchise Tax Board as a testing manager. From there, he moved to the California Department of Technology (CDT), where he served as a section chief and branch manager before moving to Parks and Recreation as deputy director and chief information officer, a role he held for four years.

In August 2022, Dennis left state government for a role as client partner with Sacramento-based Golden Bridge Strategies, a consulting and advisory firm that specializes in business development, market intelligence and procurement/contracting, among other services. The firm was founded by Jennifer Saha in 2019.

“The decision to move from Golden Bridge Strategies to Info-Tech Research Group was a thoughtful one,” Dennis told Industry Insider — California. “I’m immensely thankful for my experience working with Jen Saha and the incredible team at GBS. Joining Info-Tech Research Group feels like the natural next step.”

While serving as CIO for Parks and Recreation, Dennis was featured in an Industry Insider One-on-One interview in June 2020. “Today’s CIO must change previous perceptions of their role within an organization from purely a service provider and business enabler to an equally important ‘line of business,’” he said then.

In his CIO role, Dennis was also a speaker and panelist at industry events, including an Industry Insider Member Briefing in May 2022. In that forum, he outlined his priorities as enhancing public access, expanding workforce mobility and fostering strategic growth and development among the state’s 279 park properties.

Dennis said his new role with Info-Tech offers “an exciting new challenge,” adding, “I’m thrilled to bring my passion for government and IT to a new platform, supporting executives in optimizing their decisions and helping them to achieve professional excellence. For me, it’s a chance to dive deeper into my passion for coaching and mentoring. I can’t wait to contribute to the dynamic team at Info-Tech.”

Dennis was recognized by the California Public Sector CIO Academy with an IT Leadership Award in 2016, while he was with CDT. He is an alumnus of Sierra College, where he studied administration of justice. Among his interests, according to his LinkedIn profile, are children, the environment, health, politics, science and technology.
