The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) has requested a $49 million biennium budget for strengthening IT and data resources in the exceptional items of its Fiscal Year 2026-27 legislative appropriations request (LAR).

Here is a breakdown of the exceptional item request:
  • $17 million to continue agency data exchange and enhancement efforts and improve data analysis
  • $15.3 million for addressing technical debt
  • $11.2 million for cybersecurity advancements
  • $3.3 million for artificial intelligence technologies
  • $2.1 million for the continued development of a contracts and grants management system
DFPS’ requested capital budget is about $10 million more than the agency was granted for equivalent items in the General Appropriations Bill (HB 1) for FY 2024-25.

The LAR also includes updates for IT projects in development, including plans to transition to a new case management system and establish an interagency background check system. According to the document, both projects are in their final stages of development.
