Last November, the firm completed the task of consolidating 10 databases and converting 4 billion rows of disability and unemployment benefits data for EDD. Unemployment and disability insurance claims records of more than 18 million people were moved to a newly designed, single database. The project began in June 2009.
The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) announced its Annual Conference & Expo will be held June 11-13 in Long Beach. The organization expects 2,000 9-1-1 officials to gather to discuss emerging technologies, challenges and the future of the emergency system. Paving the way for self-driving cars to move beyond the experimental stage, the State Senate this week approved legislation to establish safety and performance standards for autonomous vehicles in California.
On Tuesday at the top of Mount Vaca between Vacaville and Fairfield, California’s Public Safety Communications Office (PSCO) installed a new satellite dish, part of the Statewide Public Safety Microwave Network consisting of 290 sites around the state. The 50 year-old satellite network provides first responder agencies, such as Cal FIRE, California Highway Patrol and CalTrans, long distance data and voice communications. The system carries more than 1300 circuits and connects over 7,000 air miles of microwave paths, according to PSCO.

The California Department of General Services (DGS), in conjunction with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), is soliciting bids from qualified firms able to provide Project Management Support Services to support state staff during the Design, Development and Implementation (DDI) of the California Medicaid Management Information System (CA-MMIS) Project. The DDI is being performed by a contractor, ACS State Healthcare, LLC, the Fiscal Intermediary (FI). The selected firm will work under the direction of State staff in managing the project and monitoring the performance of the FI. Bids must address all of the services described in Exhibit B: Statement of Work. Interested Bidders are advised to reference the IFB for additonal information regarding the Bidder’s Library. The Legislative Analyst’s Office, a nonpartisan budget analyst for the Legislature, today released a report on the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) project recommending it continue forward, despite the state’s ongoing budget deficit. In addition to the benefits of having a modern and integrated accounting system, FI$Cal will allow the state to avoid having to replace aging, individual systems in the future, says the report linked here, with the LAO’s summary in italics below.
