The county’s top technologist, Lynn Fyhrlund, has announced that he has accepted a new role as the regional government’s chief innovation officer. Fyhrlund has served as the county’s CIO since 2023.
Fong, a longtime state employee, has held leadership positions at large departments, including the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, State Controller’s Office and the California Department of Technology.
The annual awards, presented at the California Public Sector CIO Academy, honored some 60 teams and individuals for their leadership in state IT.
The state’s lingering budget problems mean that IT leaders need to be more plugged into the political realm and more aggressive about making the case for the work they do. A panel of experts talked through these complexities during the recent California Public Sector CIO Academy.
